You would think that a bone-dry 99 F (37 C) day wouldn't be the best time to shoot sparks at creosote-soaked railroad ties. Apparently Norfolk-Southern (the company that owns the rails) thought different yesterday. The local volunteer fire department is dealing with the resulting fires.
I hear from my son that the railroad is still smoldering, and is so hot that the interior of a car becomes noticeably hotter when driving over it.

A screenshot of a social media post that says: "We are aware of that the railroad tracks appear to be on fire and have been dealing with this since 2 pm today. Norfolk Southern is currently servicing the railways in Barboursville which is causing the railroad ties to catch fire and is putting off a large amount of smoke in the area. Please keep an eye on your properties that border the railroad and if your property starts to catch on fire call 911. The tracks themselves are being dealt with by Norfolk Southern employees. "
