In fact, I think this can be done without FUSE. If you have a root-owned directory `secrets` with 711 permissions, but files inside that are owned by you, then `ls secrets` will give a permission error; but if you have the secret file path in advance, you'll be able to read open that file and edit it just fine. Note that 700 permissions will not work, because in order to read a file you must be able to execute all its parent directories.
