🌲 I've done a quick write-up of this tilebased experimentation.

A 5 by 6 tile map. Every tile slot has a grass tile. There's also a pixel-sprite human character at a position 2 tiles along and 2 tiles down and an enemy rat character at a position 4 tiles along and 4 down. There are tree sprites all the way around the edge and two more in the centre, creating a donut shape of grass that the player and enemy can move within.

A matrix represenation of the game board layout and contents. This simple example is a 5 by 6 matrix, where hashmarks represent the location of tree obstacles, periods are a traversable floor tiles, the at-symbol is the player and letter 'e' the enemy.
