Slingshot Aerospace is reporting what appears to be a breakup of the ATLAS 5 CENTAUR Rocket Body, which delivered GOES 17 into orbit on March 1, 2018.
The object is in a high elliptical 34,953 km x 7,634 km near-equatorial orbit. The perigee of 7,634 km is equivalent to an altitude of 1,256 km, which is much higher than that of Starlink and other LEO constellations.
Not clear at what altitude the breakup occurred. Not known what caused it, perhaps a collision with space debris.
