My first ever "Ikea hack": we liked these Billy bookshelves the best of their available options, but hated the backings which unfortunately are normally necessary because they provide a lot of structural integrity. So, I added reinforcement braces and now they look exactly how we want and are still very sturdy. Just took about $25 worth of materials and an extra 20 minutes of work!
3 brown walnut color Ikea Billy bookshelves lined up against a wall with no backings so that you can see the wall behind them. Each shelf has metal corner braces screwed into the corners under the top and middle shelves to provide more structural integrity.
