I should mention one more thing: that cubic assumes the same power distribution curve as the world class elite cyclists, which obviously won't align with recreational cyclists.
The paper doesn't address how to setup your training zones such that it meets the requirement of strictly increasing zone percentage differences.
No doubt it'll be based on your power distribution curve, but that also means ignoring every training zone provided by coaches, software, books, other papers, etc.
