Self-PM a.k.a. "feedback FM" seemed less interesting to me before, so I didn't bother. It adds a fuller range of timbres based on a sawtooth-ish waveform morph, but that's about it unless glitches + noise is the goal with larger intensity.
Now I'm messing around with variations. Squaring the smoothed prior amplitude makes an all-odd harmonics variation; it's softer than nesting two oscillators with 2:1 modulator:carrier ratio to turn saw into square. Other feedback distortions seem meh so far.
