I had a spare external DVD drive lying around, so I took the Ubuntu Budgie DVD that was tucked in the July copy of #LinuxJournal and tried booting both normally and in safe graphics mode. The start up script fails towards the end. I briefly saw the Budgie desktop in normal boot-up mode before something happened and the screen went black. Is perhaps Linux trying to talk to my monitor via #HDCP during boot-up since I'm using an external DVD drive? There is no other media.
