Asteroid, 2024 RW1 was discovered earlier today by research technologist Jacqueline Fazekas with the Catalina Sky Survey (CSS). CSS is a NASA-funded observatory located near Tucson, Arizona, which is dedicated to the discovery and tracking of near-Earth objects (NEOs).
This is only the 9th time that an asteroid has been spotted before impact on earth. That's because the ones that have impacted earth over the past few decades have all been relatively small.

CSS observer Jacqueline Fazekas has just discovered a small meteoroid that will harmlessly impact with Earth's atmosphere in about 8 hours over the Western Pacific. The object (called CAQTDL2) is small, a few feet in diameter. Attached are the discovery images." With 4 small-dot images of the asteroid, now named 2024 RW1, taken by CSS telescopes.
