Ooooh #magit spinoff is such a nice feature.
If you make commits on the wrong branch you create a spinoff branch, it copies all commits since the last that is common with upstream to a new branch (prompting for name) and resets the branch on which they were made to that common upstream point.
No idea how you'd do this at the command line and it would no doubt involve multiple lines/chained commands, but in magit its `b s` then enter the name of the new branch.
