As a developer I've been very impressed with https://devenv.sh/ - it's a way to get a taste of #nixos without radical changes to your current system. It gives you an isolated environment with support for git pre-commit hooks, standing up dev processes like web servers, running scripts on entry, containers etc all configured in the nix language.
I'd been working towards this kinda of thing with ansible and podman but devenv.sh is all the way there already.
