I knew a lot of smart CS majors at Illinois, but because they all graduated before Larry Smarr got funding for the NCSA, they didn’t get a chance to write Mosaic, then rewrite it (without paying the university), then fight (and lose) the browser war, then somehow become someone whose opinion on things other than writing code became the subject of news stories. I suspect that some of them would have been better at all of these things.
