After days of fiddling around, trying crazy things and being clueless, we *finally* figured out what the problem was:
The USB port on the #RaspberryPi Zero (2 W) is apparently in slave mode by default, so an OTG cable is necessary. Raspberry Pi OS apparently has an option `dr_mode=host` set by default, which switches this around. I guess one cannot set this in the mainline kernel on :nixos: #NixOS. But one can pull the OTG pin to GND manually and then USB pulled from the pogo pins works! 🥳
