Something needs to shift in my mindset. It feels like software, especially collaboratively build software, needs to not value beauty nearly as much as functionality, compatibility, and development speed.
But ugly software is unsatisfying to me. I'd have to find the real joy in something other that the elegance and simplicity of the software I write.
But I *like* taking pride in making code that is simple and easy to understand in both use and reading. That's the software I want to see more of.
