Finally, we encountered novel but highly conserved TURs. The C1QL1 gene has a TUR with an AAT start codon that is conserved all the way back to sharks. These are excellent examples of how noisy translation can eventually lead to funcional protein isoforms.
The uoORF in GRIN2A is a fascinating example of a uORF that was likely originally controlled the expression of GluN2A. All GRIN2 family genes have conserved uORFs, but only the GRIN2A uoORF has cross species conservation and peptide support.
