Well, actually MixBus / Ardour disconnects Jack from the Soundcard and runs everything as usual as fast as possible.
The processing is the very same as when playing back the mix „live”, yet with exactly the critical part being eliminated, which is to deliver the audio samples in time to the hardware.
So rendering / bouncing actually feels safer than just playing back.
Concerning Lightworks (video/NLE), it often takes so long, even hours, that it would be ridiculous not to work on other stuff in parallel. Even though there's nothing like this this supersonic speed Jack thing in Lightworks at all.
