When I suggested {tikzDevice} as an alternative method, I realized that there is no good documentation for using it in a Quarto document. So I at least blogged about it:

Now I should integrate things like this into the main documentation.
BTW, this only covers classical LaTeX fonts using pdfLaTeX. Generalization to XeLaTeX or LuaLaTeX is left as an exercise to the reader ;-)
