It seems obvious to me that the US is spreading narratives again (similar to imaginary weapons of mass destruction in Iraque in 2002/2003) to frame a middle eastern country as a threat to manufacture consent in Western societies for a "preventive war" by the US or Israel at a time when Israel seems hellbent to drag the US into a regional war in support of its imperialistic plans of a Greater Israel.
