Imagine as a government you could build houses for FREE.
Imagine you could solve the housing crisis, end homelessness, and provide housing for rent or sale to key workers. With no cost to the taxpayer. In fact, the Council would make money and the taxpayer will have more assets and income.
The government can do this by asking Local Authorities to find a piece of land and build houses on it. It's shockingly simple.
Most councils have land, or it costs 25,000 a hectare, (without planning). Each house will cost £150,000 to build and be worth, £300-500,000. Each build will pay for the next with income from sale or rent.
Easy, you have just solved the housing crisis.
Instead, Reeves will be trying ideological supply side incentives for private developers. Stupidity is doing the something that doesn't work again and again.
