I share the opinion. The west did not "fail" so much as actually look the other way. There were ways to end it. Always. They just all chose not to. Something else in the geopolitical board game must have had top priority in the region for which Netanyahu's continued administration was crucial.
In other states, the West has instigated coups when it served their agenda. "We coup every state we want. Deal with it." were true words by Elon M., and he meant for its resources.
Wonder what it is that prevented a coup in Israel. Must be an oil-related thing, no? Upheaval in the MiddleEast has always been oil-related. Remember when EU started her own strategy and embraced Assad 2007/08? That was immediately nipped in the bud by the US who had other plans (Syria was one of the 5 failed states the US wanted to "achieve", according to some US general). So they had the Turkish ship attacked – after which Erdogan ended the diplomacy between Syria and Israel, Assad sided with Turkey, and all went back to square one.
And then came the drought... and Assad without any outside help. Help the EU would have granted in the new friendship... and then came the civil war. And then...
