EU countries fail to probe beatings, sexual assaults on migrants by police, report says – POLITICO July 30, 2024
Croatia, Greece and Hungary specifically “did not effectively investigate incidents of ill treatment and loss of life during border management,” an EU probe found.
A European Union human rights body decried the mistreatment of migrants on the bloc’s borders and said the EU’s member countries are not doing enough to investigate reports of human rights violations, including deaths.
The EU Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) published a damning report on Tuesday accusing EU members of failing to look into credible allegations of “serious, recurrent and widespread rights violations against migrants and refugees during border management.”
Croatia, Greece and Hungary were singled out by the body, who said the authorities in those countries “did not effectively investigate incidents of ill treatment and loss of life during border management.”
